Your Privacy

We take your privacy seriously.
Here’s what we do to protect it.

Curious.Live Inc. (“Curious.Live”) cares about the personal data of its users. These Privacy Guidelines explain the collection, use and disclosure of personal information across all web sites and web service operated by Curious.Live unless the web site or service has a separate privacy policy.

The sharing after each journey is the best part of the experience

As used in this policy, “personally-identifying information” means information that would allow a party to identify you such as, for example, your name, address or location, telephone number or email address.

a. Openness Principles

Curious.Live is an open and transparent organization. In that spirit, we share as much information as possible about our products, services, operations, and associations. Users who interact with Curious.Live Web sites and/or telephone services should therefore understand and be aware that by posting or otherwise providing publicly any personally-identifying information to Curious.Live or through a Curious.Live service, you are making such information publicly available through the Internet, and it is possible that your personally-identifying information may be viewed or even archived by anyone. There are three exceptions to this broad principle, explained in (d), below.

b. Visitors to Curious.Live Web Sites

Except as described below, Curious.Live does not collect or require visitors to its Web sites to furnish personally-identifying information. Like most Web site operators, Curious.Live collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preferences, referring site, and date and time of each visitor request. Curious.Live also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, which are non-personally identifying in and of themselves but could be used in conjunction with other information to personally identify users. We may also use cookies, clear GIFs and other tracking technology to collect this kind of information.
Curious.Live’s purpose in collecting this information is to better understand how Curious.Live’s visitors use its Web sites and to assist in debugging. To that end, Curious.Live may share such information with its employees, contractors, volunteers, and its subsidiaries and related organizations. Curious.Live may also release such information about visitors (e.g., by publishing a report on Web site usage trends).

c. Community Members

Certain members of the Curious.Live community (journey facilitators, participants, etc.) choose to interact with Curious.Live in ways that require Curious.Live and others to know more about them. The amount and type of information that Curious.Live gathers from those members depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, certain features are only available to logged-in users. Curious.Live asks journey facilitators and participants to create user profiles, which may include photographs and personal descriptions. Members who are registered and sign in to the Curious.Live website are able to contact members through their profiles. Contact information such as email addresses are not publicly available on the Curious.Live Web site, however if a user sends email through the website, the message contains the sender’s email address, which will thereby be revealed to the recipient.

Journey facilitators and participants in the same journey are likely to obtain personally-identifying information for the purposes of supporting and improving collaboration and communication in the journey itself. Curious.Live is not responsible for the disclosure of personally-identifying information that is voluntarily revealed when participating in a journey, nor is it responsible for the actions of any third party (such as journey facilitators or participants) with respect to such personally-identifying information. Certain features of the Curious.Live service may limit journey capacity or access to a limited number of users, however, such limitations are not intended to limit the accessibility of journey materials and related discussions, and Curious.Live may make any journey materials or discussions more or less publicly accessible at any time without notice.

d. Exceptions

As a general rule, users should assume that that any personally-identifying information provided through Curious.Live’s Web sites will be publicly accessible to other users of the Curious.Live service as well as anyone else that accesses the Curious.Live service such as but not limited to web crawling computer programs operated by third-party search engine operators that may then include such materials in search engine search results. As an exception, Curious.Live does not intend to make publicly available:

information that is used to authenticate users the publication of which would compromise the security of Curious.Live’s Web sites (e.g., passwords);
information that it specifically states at the time of collection to maintain in confidence; and
financial account information gathered in connection with commercial transactions (i.e., transactions involving money such as donations to Curious.Live).

e. Interactive Product Features

Certain Curious.Live products or services may contain features that report, or that permit users to report, the user’s usage patterns to Curious.Live. The reports generated by these features typically include both non-personally-identifying information such as the configuration of the user’s computer and personally-identifying information such as usernames and IP addresses. Curious.Live may analyze the information provided by these interactive product features to develop a better understanding of how its users interact with each other and the Curious.Live service, how they participate in learning activities and what skills and competencies they develop and demonstrate.

f. Protection and Disclosure of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

Where Curious.Live has collected personally-identifying information subject to one of the three exceptions described in the Community Members section, above, it discloses that information only to those of its employees, volunteers, contractors and its subsidiaries and related organizations that need to know that information in order to process it on Curious.Live’s behalf and that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, volunteers, contractors and subsidiaries and related organizations may be located outside of a visitor’s home country; by using Curious.Live’s Web sites, the visitor consents to the transfer of his/her information to them. Curious.Live does not rent or sell such information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors or its subsidiaries and related organizations, as described above, Curious.Live discloses such information only when required to do so by law, or when Curious.Live believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Curious.Live, members of the Curious.Live community, or the public at large.

g. Updating of Personally-Identifying Information

Curious.Live permits users to update and correct some of their personally-identifying information as maintained by Curious.Live through the Curious.Live website. To do so, users should look for links or contact information available on whichever Curious.Live Web sites store the relevant information, or contact Curious.Live by email at Users are permitted to deactivate their profile, however, contributions to the Curious.Live Web site will not be removed when the profile is deactivated.

h. Children

Curious.Live’s web sites are not directed at children under the age of 13. Consistent with the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly request personally-identifying information from anyone under the age of 13 without requiring parental consent. If we learn that personally-identifying information has been collected from a user under 13 years of age on or through the Curious.Live website, then we will take the appropriate steps to cause this information to be deleted. If you are the parent or legal guardian of a child under 13 who has provided Curious.Live with personally-identifying information, please contact Curious.Live at to have that child’s information deleted.

i. Cookies and Clear GIFs

Cookies. A cookie is a string of information that a Web site stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the Web site each time the visitor returns. Most major web sites use cookies. Because the browser provides this cookie information to the website at each visit, cookies serve as a sort of label that allows a website to “recognize” a browser when it returns to the site. The domain name in Curious.Live cookies will clearly identify their affiliation with Curious.Live and, where applicable, its third party service provider.

Clear GIFs. Clear GIFs (also known as web beacons) are often used in combination with cookies to help web site operators understand how visitors interact with their websites. A clear GIF is typically a transparent graphic image (usually 1 pixel x 1 pixel) that is placed on a site or in an email. The use of a clear GIF allows the site to measure the actions of the visitor opening the page that contains the clear GIF. It makes it easier to follow and record the activities of a recognized browser, such as the path of pages visited at a website.

How We Use Cookies and Clear GIFs. Curious.Live’s Web sites use cookies and may use clear GIFs in the future. These tools help Curious.Live identify and track visitors, their usage of Curious.Live Web sites, and their Web site access preferences across multiple requests and visits to Curious.Live’s Web sites. The basic idea is to gather aggregate data about how people use the Curious.Live Web sites. The term usually used to describe this is “web analytics” and the cookies and clear GIFs are the tools by which a website owner collects this web analytics data. Curious.Live will use the web analytics data only to determine aggregate usage patterns for our Web sites as described above. Curious.Live uses the information provided by cookies and clear GIFs to develop a better understanding of how Curious.Live’s visitors use Curious.Live’s Web sites, and to facilitate those visitors’ interactions with Curious.Live’s Web sites. Curious.Live may make the aggregate data it obtains publicly available. If the data is made available, none of the information will be personally-identifying information or potentially-personally-identifying information.
How to Control the Use of Cookies. Curious.Live visitors have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Curious.Live visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers by Curious.Live, its contractors, or third-party service providers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before linking to Curious.Live’s Web sites. Certain features of Curious.Live’s Web sites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

j. Location

The Curious.Live website is hosted in the United States. If you use the Curious.Live Website from the European Union, or any other region with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, please note that you are transferring your personal data to the United States. The United States does not have the same data protection laws as the European Union and other regions. By providing personally-identifying information under this Privacy Policy, you consent to the use of personally-identifying information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and the transfer of your personally-identifying information to the United States.

k. Transfer

In the event of a change in ownership, or a merger with, acquisition by, or sale of assets to, another entity, we reserve the right to transfer all of the information you give to us, including email addresses, to that entity. We will use reasonable efforts to notify registered users of such a transfer (by a posting on our home page, or by email to your email address that was provided to us, as chosen by us in our discretion).

l. Security

WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ANY SECURITY MEASURES WE MAY EMPLOY WILL PREVENT UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS FROM ILLEGALLY ACCESSING OR OBTAINING THE PERSONALLY-IDENTIFYING INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE CURIOUS.LIVE SERVICE. If we learn of a security breach, we will notify you, as required by applicable law. By using the Curious.Live website or providing personally-identifying information to us, you agree that we can communicate with you electronically regarding security, privacy, and administrative issues relating to your use of the Curious.Live website. If a security systems breach occurs, we may post a notice on our homepage (, or elsewhere on the Curious.Live website and may send email to you at the email address you have provided to us.

m. Privacy Policy Changes

Curious.Live may change its Privacy Policy from time to time. Any and all changes will be reflected on this page. Substantive changes will also be announced through the standard mechanisms through which Curious.Live communicates with the Curious.Live community.

Curious.Live Debrief License v1.0

A valuable part of any collaborative or co-created experience is sharing communications about the experience. In order to strengthen your experience for future review and for our own research, we potentially record conversations between buddies at the end of Journeys. We call these audio recordings “debriefs”. You may of course use our system without speaking during the debrief recording and may hang up at that point or at any point. Because you retain the copyright of your audio recording, in order to record and potentially use this audio, we need you to license it to us. We are sensitive to the fact that these debriefs may at times contain very personal information. We have no intentions of disclosing this information to third parties. We hope to allow Curious.Live users to review and possibly share their own debriefs as they see fit in the future. We also would like to review debriefs to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of our journeys. For these reasons, by using the Curious.Live system and creating a debrief recording, you license the audio recording to Curious.Live, Inc. for the two purposes of offering future features and for research.
